Instagram, the photo and video-sharing social network, now has over 500 million daily and 800 million monthly active users. Users follow business accounts, scroll through feeds, and like photos. How can Instagram businesses go beyond users’ browsing habits to convert them into actionable habits?
Appointment/Reservation/Ticket Booking – Recently announced in Bloomberg, Instagram will be rolling out in-app appointment and reservation capabilities over the next couple of months. Want to try out the dinner special your favorite restaurant just posted a photo of? Make a reservation without leaving the app.
Payments – Businesses on Instagram can add product tags to their photo posts through a product catalog, but since the initial roll out in 2016, this feature would then take you out of the app. In-app purchases are now being integrated into Instagram and will allow you to register a form of payment as part of a profile and set up a security pin.
To incorporate these new features, Instagram will introduce new action buttons with help from a variety of third-party partners such as Eventbrite, Fandango, Resy, OpenTable, Yelp Reservations, and more. Additionally, Instagram wants to help businesses navigate these features better by making it easier to communicate with consumers. Messages from consumers through Instagram Direct will no longer go into a pending folder, but directly into the business’s main inbox.
Whether you’re a consumer or a business, Instagram is looking to help you do it all with new features. Will you be making reservations or payments on Instagram? Let us know on our Facebook page!
